Agency Hosted Grant Training Workshops

Homeland Defense-Grants understands that many of you are working with very limited budgets and that your time is extremely limited and valuable. You may not have the budgetary resources or the time to travel and attend one of our larger National grant writing training workshops. We have heard that plea and we are pleased to announce an alternative for those of you facing these types of problems.

Homeland Defense - Grants is pleased to announce our new “Agency Hosted Workshops”. A more economical and convenient way for you to receive the grant writing training you desire and need, while still allowing you to stay on budget. We will come to your department and present our grant writing training course.

Why Should We Choose Homeland Defense – Grants To Provide This Training?

  • Specialization - We specialize in working ONLY with grants and funding issues related specifically to public safety agencies, First Responders and Emergency Service Providers.
  • Focused Training – Since we stay so tightly focused ONLY on grant funding issues related to this specific career field, our training is more “on point” and specifically related to locating, developing, applying and more importantly; winning those grant awards.
  • Credibility – We utilize only experienced current or former public safety administrators as our instructors. They have walked in your shoes and know your problems first hand. They are all experienced and successful grant writers for First Responders and Emergency Services Providers. The material is presented in language familiar and understandable to you.
  • Results – We have established an overall success rate of 78% in public safety grants for our clients. Incredibly, with our assistance and training, our students have an 80% success rate. We have assisted Public Safety, First Responder and Emergency Services Agencies in amassing over $131 million dollars in grant awards from Federal, State, Local and Corporate and Private Foundation funding sources.

How Does This Work?

  • If you are a Public Safety Agency or Emergency Services Provider, call our Vice President, Kurt Bradley. He can be reached at 863-551-9598.
  • We will discuss a future tentative date for your workshop. This is usually 10-12 weeks in advance in order to allow you ample to time to prepare and assist in recruiting students to attend your workshop.
  • Homeland Defense - Grants will supply you with email /faxable copy materials that have been customized for your workshop listing the dates, locations, times, agency contact information and announcing your workshop etc.
  • You are responsible for assisting us in recruiting students to the class. We will come to you and present the training once you have a minimum of 20 students registered for the workshop from your area. The usual size of these classes typically is around 20-30 students however; we can handle as many as your training facility can legally seat within existing fire codes. Recruiting within your state and from the local First Responder Community is part of your responsibility and this is why we can hold these attendance costs down for your students, however; we have done these type workshops for many departments and we can advise you on methods you may use to get the students informed of the availability of the class and help facilitate your recruiting efforts.
  • Cost to each student is $299 per student.
  • Homeland Defense - Grants will handle all billing / invoicing of students. An online registration link, for your workshop, will also be provided and your workshop will be posted on our website to assist you in recruiting students.
  • Homeland Defense- Grants accepts local government P.O.# or payment can be made by credit card or through a check brought to the workshop site. Payment is due from all students on the first day of the workshop.
  • STUDENT CANCELLATION POLICY: You may designate a substitute in writing any time before the event. Cancellation requests must be sent in writing (email or fax) and will be subject to a $100 processing fee. In the event of work or family related emergency, the registrant may apply the course fee to any other training course offered by Homeland Defense Training – including Grants Training. We're sure you'll be satisfied with the content of our training. If you're not, please tell us why in a brief letter and we will credit your investment towards another Homeland Defense training.

What Does My Agency Have Responsibility For?

  • Help market and recruit the students regionally and get them to register. This can be done with local and state professional associations and their websites, bulletin boards, flyers or email lists. Typically the draw area for this type of workshop is 2 hours driving distance from the workshop venue.
  • You will be required to provide the training facility. The training facility can be any room, set into a classroom style, and large enough to safely and comfortably accommodate the minimum number of students. We recommend 3 students per 8 foot table.
  • The training facility needs to have an Internet computer access point and we are capable of wireless access.
  • We have our own laptop computers and projectors but, a projection screen or white wall at front of room is needed.
  • You will also be required to reproduce the handout materials (which we will supply to you) for each student attending. This is usually 40-60 pages of material per student and can be reproduced in b/w.
  • We will provide each student with a copy of our “Grant Writing Best Practices for PSAs” manual.
  • In exchange for providing the above, the hosting agency will be provided with one free seat at the workshop for every 10 paying students that attend the workshop. You may use these free seats yourself or give them away, the choice is yours.
  • 30 days prior to your workshop’s arranged date, we will have a teleconference with you to check your recruiting efforts. If you have the required 20 students, we will “lock” your date in. Our consultants will then make airline and hotel reservations for your workshop. As these reservations are usually non-refundable (without incurring considerable penalty) from that point forward, the agency is responsible to assure that a minimum of 20 paying students are present at the time we appear for your workshop. If you have less than the required 20 students, the agency assumes financial responsibility for any seats less than the 20 minimum required. Our consultants pay all their own travel expenses. It is therefore important that you get firm confirmations from registering students that they will in fact attend. We suggest that you get telephone confirmation from each student at least one week prior to the workshop and follow that up with an email confirmation to each student.
  • IMPORTANT- It is the hosting agencies responsibility, in the unlikely event that you may be forced to cancel your workshop, to notify all students who have registered to attend and inform them of the cancellation of the workshop. This must be accomplished by phone, email and USPS letter, in order to avoid the embarrassing predicament for you, and Homeland Defense, of having someone from outside your area incur travel expenses and/or time off from work, only to show up and not have a workshop actually taking place.

So What Is The Difference Between A “National Workshop” And An “Agency Hosted Workshop”?

  • We do not provide or pay for refreshments/meals for your students; this is your responsibility. Most hosts solicit a local restaurant or sandwich/pizza restaurant to supply lunch as a donation to their department. Many hosts have also had success soliciting funds from local businesses to pay for these amenities themselves, as well.
  • You will only have one consultant/instructor for the class.

Other than these two things, the workshop material content is exactly the same as our larger National Workshops.

What Are the Advantages Of an “Agency Hosted Workshop”?

    • They are more economically affordable for agencies to attend, saving the agencies significant money. Our “National Workshops” cost $499 to attend. Attendance at an “Agency Hosted Workshop” saves you $200 in tuition fees.
    • You and the students generally have no outrageous airline travel costs or large city hotel, transportation and food costs.
    • A smaller class size, provides more one on one time per student.
